Lake Rotoma, Bay of Plenty.

Sixteen years ago Colin and Margaret swapped their busy life in Hong Kong and for a lifestyle block in the Bay of Plenty. It's a choice they have never looked back on. They now farm heifer calves but also have deer, goats and horses. Two years ago they decided to share a piece of their paradise with holidaymakers and built "Candleford Farm Cottage".

The cottage is is located in the peaceful heart of the forest between Lakes Rotoma (the cleanest lake in New Zealand!) and Rotoehu.

Lake Rotoma is approximately 30 mins from Rotorua, Whakatane and unspoilt beaches of the Bay of Plenty.

The Cottage

A simple but spacious two bedroom cottage is able to sleep 6 - 8 people (max) with two single beds, a queen and a king. There is also a fold out sofa bed in the lounge. The cottage is fully equipped with all you need for a comfortable holiday and linen is supplied. The cottage is also wheelchair friendly.

Seasonal highlights

This is an all-the-year-round holiday destination with every conceivable outdoor recreation with the exception of skiing, readily available. For those who are not interested in such matters, Rotorua has a wide range of more sophisticated tourist attractions, cultural events and shopping.

What's makes this place special?

"It's so peaceful" - there are lovely views over the farm and an acre of safe, mature grounds for children to run, play and explore. The grounds around the cottage are large enough for a game of cricket or soccer.

Out & About

As Lake Rotoma is so clean and the beaches near to the farm are of white sand, it is a very pleasant place to swim - children and all ages will enjoy themselves.

The only limits to exploring in the Bay of Plenty are ones imagination and a lack of Mountains. These range from the Redwood Forest in Rotorua, which is ideal for the less athletic, to the ocean and lakes and the true wilderness of the Rotoehu and Urewera Forests.

If boating and fishing appeals there are boat launching ramps on excellent trout lakes only minutes from the bach. Boat fishing here is popular and rewarding. Or you could do a day trip to one of the local sea beaches are beautiful.

Eating out

Rotorua and Whakatane have a very wide range of restaurants and cafes catering for every conceivable taste.

"Those at the top of the range are extremely good and this comes from one who lived in Hong Kong for many years!"

Colin & Margaret's pick of them all is the Harbourside Waterfront Dining in Tauranga with the Wharf Shed Restaurant in Whakatane a close second!

Don't miss a visit to?

- White Island, an active volcano off Whakatane.
- Rotorua and Taupo's many examples of thermal activity.
- Rotorua's various cultural activities.
- Polynesian Pools in Rotorua - wonderful!
- Mount Maunganui and Tauranga Harbour.

Rainy dayz?

On rainy days the bach is sufficiently spacious not to be oppressive - take the opportunity to catch up on a favourite novel. A 30 minute drive away is Rotorua where apart from excellent shopping there are a number of indoor activities, e.g. Agrodome, Polynesian Pools, Theme Parks, Museum & Events Centre.
