Ligar Bay, Golden Bay, Nelson.
Ligar Bay, is one of Golden Bay's most beautiful golden sand beaches. It is about a two hour drive NW of Nelson, over the very scenic Takaka Hill. The Birt Family welcome you to their holiday home. Why a bach here? We live on our vineyard at Kina Beach near Motueka, where we produce award-winning wines. We are busy there in summer, so spend most of our days at the bach in winter. We built it here because of the great safe beach, and our close proximity to it... it's also very quiet, being set back from the main road. Whats Special... The house is brand new; a 200 square metre modern kiwi bach. The colour-steel exterior and low roof lines make it stunning from the outside and very luxurious inside É open plan living at it's best, with a huge deck and 10-seater communal macrocarpa table as the centrepiece; plus loungers and a BBQ.

Our Favourite Activities We love Ligar Bay beach; it's safe and has clean golden sand at all tides. Our grandchildren love the streams and islands formed as the tide retreats; they think they're on Treasure Island, making castles from sand and driftwood! Our two favourite walks (apart from the beach) are The Grove - a wonderland of rocks and forest, and Wainui Falls - simply spectacular! We also love the Rawhiti caves, although a degree of fitness is required as the climb is steep.
Don't miss a visit to... Pupu Springs (Waikoropupu) for some of the clearest water in the world; and the long golden beach at Totaranui (at the northern end of the Abel Tasman coastline).

Seasonal Highlights... Summer is the most popular time, with families making annual pilgrimages for their summer holidays. Spring is beautiful with many native bush walks at their best at that time; winter is spectacular. The winter weather is stunning and the sea calm. Autumn can also be spectacular with warm days and very few people; great boating weather and good fishing. Eating out Our favourites are Totally Roasted for coffee and The Penguin Bar for dinner - both only 5 minutes away in Pohara. Out & About • Swimming! - the beach is really safe for kids and is only 100m away
