Nydia Bay, Marlborough Sounds.
Beside the sea, in its own cove, away from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives today, is Nydia Bay - a very special spot. This property is boat access only and this is easily achieved by a 45 minute boat ride from Havelock Marina. Jocelyn and Marty had spent 20 years living and working in the Marlborough sounds, and dreamed of one day having their own special place. Nydia Bay has become that dream and now days they feel privileged to have "their own special place". The Chalet... The chalet is sunny and well equipped with solar lighting, gas cooker and fridge, coal range and wetback hot water for kitchen and bathroom. There are sundecks on the front and back of the house. The Seasons At Nydia Summer time means swimming off the beach or from the private jetty. Boating, fishing, catching up on summer reading or just lolling around doing nothing. All in the privacy and shelter of your own cove.

Winter is the quiet time at Nydia. The spring and summer breezes die down and the sea is lake like and calm with morning mists. Most tourists have gone home and the sounds return to their beautiful sleepy tranquility. You may not be able to swim but there is still boating and fishing, relaxing or perhaps enjoying the company of family and friends on a weekend away. Kayaking Nydia is a kayaker's paradise! Kayaking is especially good during autumn - calm waters, and easy access to all the little bays "Come and hear the stags roar at Easter on the full moon, when the bay turns to silver..."

Exploring The Chalet is right beside the Department of Conservation Nydia Track which links Nydia bay both to Tennyson inlet and Havelock, via two passes over the hills. There are easy going walks through both farmland and mature beech forest. These are easy and fun to walk and give access to remote beaches, wildlife areas etc. Take a packed lunch, a water bottle and set off for the morning. Meet "Ella"... Close to the holiday house is a giant 100 year old eel called Ella!! She is protected by the Department of Conservation and lives in her own pool beside the track. Jocelyn say Ella loves to come and greet trampers as they pass by. She loves fish and any kind of meat, which she will take from your hand if you dare!
Jocelyn and Marty welcome you to come enjoy a stay Nydia and see another special part of New Zealand. If you would like to book this bach or find out more, you can view the listing here. |
