Orewa Beach, Auckland.
Orewa Beach is an easy 25 minute drive north of Auckland City. From Whangarei, the drive is 90 minutes or from the Auckland Airport 1 hour (or 12 minutes by helicopter service). Why buy a holiday home in Orewa? David and Alison first saw the property for sale in the winter of 2000. David says "The first time we saw it there was a terrible storm, the seas were rough and the wind was howling! But when you looked out the lounge window it was an awesome sight. You are so close to the sea". David and Alison now live in Australia but escape for holidays in Orewa. They love getting feedback from guests once they have finished their holiday and get a lot of pleasure from sharing their piece of paradise with others.
Summer at Orewa In the warmer months the beach is a key attraction for everyone. Sometimes the beach can be just like a lake, with barely a ripple, and it provides opportunities for kayaking, swimming or sailing. On other days the beach is ideal for windsurfers and kite surfers, and if the tide is out, the beach is perfect for land sailors when there is a bit of wind about. Autumn, Winter and Spring are still ideal times to visit the beach. For the active there is beach and rock walking, or for a quieter day sit in the house and enjoy the panoramic views of winter seas and elements with the log fire going. Guests can also pop up to the famous Waiwera Hot Pools and have a meal, watch a movie in a pool before returning to Paradise. Orewa Township The Orewa Beach township has everything you would ever need, with all sorts of cafes and restaurants, shopping, banks and service facilities. One of things guests really enjoy is the ability to go and get the paper, milk and bread and be back home all within two minutes!! Once you are here, you can easily get by without needing a car. |
Out & About... If you enjoy walking there are in excess of 100 bush walks that we know about within ten kilometres of the house. There is bird life in the wetland estuary at the southern end of the beach. A day at Golf? There are three courses within a 15 minute drive of the property, including the Gulf Harbour Country Club, which is home to the NZ Golf Open.
Fishing... Orewa Beach is very popular with people who love to fish - be it straight from the beach, or those that kite fish when the wind is right. Secret Spots... Straight in front of the house, at low tide, you can dig for shellfish! There are heaps, but take only enough to eat. And the best spot for a bit of walking or biking - on the beach of course. Eating out... The range of different restaurants is really quite amazing - including Thai, Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Middle Eastern and Mexican. "Because the views from the property are so awesome, what we usually do is simply get takeaways from many of the restaurants that provide that service, and then take it home to eat on the beach. Having a BBQ on the beachfront is certainly one of the lovely memories guests will take away with them. "
Don't miss a visit to? Puhoi (the Puhoi cheese factory and the Puhoi pub), Waiwera Hot Pools, internationally acclaimed Morris and James pottery at Matakana, Tiritiri Island for the bird sanctuary, the SnowPlanet which is the all year indoor ski field with real snow and Kawau Island with a visit to the historic Mansion House. |
What is your fondest bach memory? One of our memories would have to be having a school of dolphins following us around for half an hour as we sailed our Hobie cat on a beautiful day. We also have many fond memories that we repeat whenever we have the opportunity to stay there, including BBQ's on the beach with family and friends, with a glass of wine as the sun goes down. Rainy dayz... On rainy days, the house is full of books and magazines - and if it is getting a little chilly as well, just light a fire and relax, or take the lazy option and put the reverse cycle air conditioning unit on which heats the place up pretty quickly. If you need to go out, try the Albany Shopping Centre. This place is BIG with heaps of shops, and a new Westfield Shopping complex currently under construction. Adult guests will enjoy the private therapeutic therapies at the Waiwera Thermal Spa Resort, and the kids can have fun on the whirling rides and water slides.
Holiday activities for children? If you have children, bring them to Orewa Beach. They always have a ball. They can easily be watched from the lounge or the front lawn as the sand and the sea is literally only ten metres away. Across in Silverdale (a 5 minute drive away) is the fantastic Snow Planet and right next door are Go-Karts. Bigger kids can even try Kiteboarding which is very popular at Orewa Beach when the wind conditions are right. Free Family fun? Every Sunday is the Rodney Farmers Market (just a 3 minute stroll away!), and every second Saturday is the Orewa Market. The Silverdale market (a five minute drive) is on every Saturday. Depending on the time of year you visit, there seems to always be something on for the whole family. What do our guests say? "Most guests are simply amazed at the panoramic vistas and how close the sea really is. One thing is for sure, guests certainly have an enjoyable and memorable holiday at the property".
