Hatepe, Lake Taupo, Central North Island.
Hatepe, is located 15km south of Taupo township. It is a small settlement built around the Hinemaiaia River and Lake Taupo. It offers great fishing in both the river and lake and is with in short driving distance of the Tongariro river and Whakapapa Ski Resort. A bit about ourselves... We are a family of four with two very active boys aged 11 and 13 years. We all love to be outside - walking, mountain biking, sailing, fishing and boating. We love Kuratau as it is a very safe area - plenty to do all year round and we try and be here as much as we can. Why a bach here? Having grown up at Kuratau as kids and remembering all the fun we had we wanted our children to have the same safe experiences.

Summer Delights During summer most of our time is spent on or near the water! We love swimming, water skiing, sailing in the dinghy, or taking the kayaks up the river. Our children enjoy fishing off the Kuratau spit and much fun is had jumping off the wharf. One of their highlights is spotlighting at night for catfish!
Winter Traditions We love to head up to Mt Ruapehu for snowboarding and skiing. A family tradition is to stopping on the way back for a swim at the hotpools at Tokaanu Something fun We often go mountain biking along the numerous tracks that are available -our kids love to go off exploring on their bikes. They take the walkie-talkies with them and keep in touch with us as to where they are.- lots of fun! |
Activities • There's a golf course nearby in Turangi and there are scenic flights available to sighsee over the volcancic craters. Eating out One of our favourite places is the cosy Italian restaurant above the National Bank in Turangi.
Kids will love The Trout Hatchery in Turangi - here you can see hundreds of trout plus they can even have a go at fishing! Secret spot? A secret spot for kids is to kayak to the cliffs near the river. Halfway along the cliffs is a cave that they can disappear in to. Rumour has it that it was once a smuggler's hideout!! Our Favourite Sitting on the deck at the end of a dayÕs swimming and boating - enjoying a glass of wine with friends and looking out over the lake while the sun goes down.
