Raglan, on the coast west of Hamilton is a wee snippet of what the good old days were like when you went to your bach for a holiday. It also has a reputation for one of the best surf beaches in the country. Further inland, the mountains lead to pastures and the dairying hub of New Zealand, where each year at Mystery Creek near Hamilton, the National Agricultural Fieldays are held; a good opportunity to combine a stay at any one of the Waikato holiday homes & houses and a walk around the paddocks.
Never to be missed is the thermal wonderland of Rotorua and the unique Maori welcome afforded there to visitors. The deep spirituality of the Maori is almost tangible here. The lakes around this area; Okareka, Okataina, Rotoiti, Rotokakahi, to name but a few, are a great resource for water sports of all kinds and are spine-tingling in their rich hues of blue and green.
Further north to the Bay of Plenty holiday homes & houses, the scenery turns to sandy beaches, rolling surf and subtropical fruit production as one nears the stretch from Tauranga to Whakatane, a popular area with youngsters as well as retired folk. Further east you’ll find Bay of Plenty holiday homes & houses all the way to Cape Runaway where the towns get further apart and you start to feel that you really have, “got away from it all”.
