Northland holiday baches, homes & houses dot the “winterless north” from the west coast to the east and with its almost sub-tropical climate, a holiday here can assure you of warm temperatures. Holiday homes in Northland also reflect cultural diversity which ranges from the sumptuous to the simple.
Along the west coast of Northland the shallow harbours of Kaipara and Hokianga with their winding estuaries bear witness to the many coastal trader vessels which plied this coast in years gone by, carrying away the rich resource of kauri timber. Today, in addition to Northland’s baches these inlets are home to a rich tapestry of crafts people, age-old Maori tribes and families and alternative life style seekers enjoying a gentle, more peaceful way of life.
On the west coast, a walk in the forest parks is highly recommended where native plant regeneration has lead to a proliferation of bird life. Following on up the coast to Kataia is where Ninety Mile Beach begins and organised tours will take you along the sand dunes to Cape Reinga, the northernmost tip of the North Island.
On the eastern side, Northland holiday houses for rent abound among the numerous beautiful small harbours and bays where Northland’s famous big game fishing operations are based. Scuba diving enthusiasts will marvel at the abundance of sea life around the marine protected islands of the Poor Knights and around the Bay of Islands where discerning yachties spend days sailing in the world famous archipelago.
If you can tear yourself away from any of the Northland holiday homes & houses, take the time to visit Waitangi where the treaty between the British monarchy and the Maori tribes was signed, stop by Russell, New Zealand’s first capital and don’t forget to see the exquisitely crystal clear Kai Iwi lakes.
