Away from the city and neighbouring Richmond, with its new, modern shopping mall, the long coastline is well covered by Nelson Golden Bay holiday homes & houses. From Farewell Spit all the way round to French Pass it is dotted with beautiful beaches and idyllic settlements and has become the roost of artists and craftsman, the free-spirited young and the nobly retired, the down-to-earth kiwi and the fabulously wealthy.
Sea kayaking is very popular around the Abel Tasman National Park coastline and can be mixed with hiking the trails and camping. Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes national parks offer wilderness and alpine-type trekking respectively and for more underground adventures, the largest cave in the southern hemisphere, Harwood’s Hole, is located on the Takaka Hill separating Tasman Bay from Golden Bay.
The Waimea plains and the Moutere hills are burgeoning grape growing areas with elegant and attractive wineries offering their latest vintages and food to eat. Pip fruits such as apples and pears have traditionally grown well here and at harvest time there’s always the opportunity for a few days work picking fruit before retiring to any of the Nelson Golden Bay holiday homes & houses.
With such a diverse topography, there are a myriad of outdoor activities to partake in from tandem skydiving, to deep sea fishing, from exploring the windswept sand dunes of Farewell Spit to horse riding, fly fishing and skiing.
