The idyllic sun-drenched Fiji islands are approximately 2000 kilometres north of New Zealand and as such are a popular holiday destination for New Zealanders. There are two main islands, Vanua Levu and Viti Levu where the Capital city Suva is located. Most flights, however, land at Nadi on Viti Levu’s western side. For drink there’s Kava; the potent liquor made the roots of this plant. The large Indian population, whose origin stems back to colonial times and sugar plantations, also produce some delicious curries.
Despite some recent political upheavals, village life continues unchanged and the slow and relaxed pace of life sits well with the tropical climate, the peaceful lagoons with their clear blue waters abundant with fish life and a restful stay at one of the Fiji holiday homes & houses.
