The Kingdom of Tonga lies approximately 2300 kilometres north-east of New Zealand and is made up of 172 tropical islands. There are 5 main islands, most notable being Tongatapu, site of the Royal Palace, Vava’u, a sailing and diving Mecca and ‘Eua, site of Tonga’s native forest National Park.

The islands have a mixture of volcanic and raised coral origins, resulting in widely varying geography and vegetation from mountainous areas supporting dense woodland to low-lying coral formations. In addition to activities such as swimming, kayaking, diving and snorkelling around the islands of Tonga, Ha’apai has become renowned for some of the best surfing in the Pacific.
On the island of Vava’u it’s possible to charter yachts and other sea craft and sail around the nearby archipelago either staying aboard the yacht or venturing out overnight and sleeping under the stars on your own white sandy beach.
