Dogs or no Dogs?

6. Re: Dogs or no Dogs?

We have found that people who ask if they can bring their pet don't cause any problems. The holes in the garden, torn furniture, bad smells etc are caused by dogs who's owners pretend they don't have any animals.

We started off allowing pets outside, but found that people abused this rule and brought them inside. We now no longer post the property as pets welcome... but we do invite guests to contact us if they would like to bring a pet along... from now on its case by case.

As batch owners, I would suggest providing a kennel and run. You could then encourage the true pet lovers to come with their dog - and off set the cost with a small charge.

In our three houses we allow dogs in all but one. The exception is due to rules of Martinborough Estate which says no dogs.

Hi there Liz, we state that dogs may come at our discretion, and if allowed, must be kept outside. We then when requested, check that the dog is a non aggressive type. Its a hard one, because there is no problem if the dog and owners are well behaved, but if not, your furniture could be ruined and the place smell of wet dog!

We are about to start renting out holiday home out and are new to the renting scene. Do we let people stay and bring their dogs or not? What rules do other owners have?
