Description
Karekare is situated on the ‘Wild West’ coast just 45 minutes from downtown Auckland. But once you’re here you’ll feel light years away from the Metropolis! Sitting high above the beach (but only 10 mins away from it), Wharepuka (House amongst the pukas) is a peaceful haven with stunning bush and sea views, set on 10 acres of land.
Inside you’ll find all the comforts of home, including a massive high-ceilinged kitchen/dining/living room with panoramic views to the north and west - an ideal relaxing and entertaining space. Completely renovated in 2011.
Outside, admire the many native trees, watch tuis and wood pigeons, relax on the extensive decks or by the large fireplace, play petanque, have a BBQ, or soak in the outdoor bath with a glass of wine. For rainy days there’s a roaring pot-belly stove, extensive library, games, TV/VCR/DVD and stereo. In good weather you can take in one of the many local bush walks, visit the stunning local beach (famous as the film set for The Piano) or just soak in the unspoilt beauty that is Karekare. Suitable for families, groups or couples - summer or winter.

“We had a terrific time. Lovely outlook… The house is very comfortable and set out well. We were very cosy during the stormy weather on Saturday with the potbelly going. Nice walk to waterfall and on Karekare beach. Many thanks,”

“Just wanted to say thanks very much – we LOVED the place and had a fantastic time :)
We all sat together out on the deck and ate dinner together while the sun set… amazing!
Definitely will try to get back out there again as soon as we can.

“We enjoyed a fantastic weekend staying at Wharepuka. It was beautifully quiet waking up to views across paddocks and bush to the west coast, with the only movement being the clouds, sheep and turkeys. Mal’s trail run suggestion, map and directions for the 1st day were excellent (could maybe use a gear/people scrub down bowl outside). We made full use of all the house facilities with a BBQ every evening, watched the RWC2011 quarter finals, played petanque, outdoor bath (though make sure everyone else has had a shower etc before using as it emptied the tank), a lot of reading and relaxing. It was sad to have to leave on Sunday. Would definitely stay again. Perfect weekend! Craig & Gudrun”
