Take some quiet time out in one of Northland’s “must see” places, The Hokianga retains the essence of old time New Zealand with its relaxed and laid back attitude. Enjoy the lovely white, sandy beach. The shops and boat ramp near by. The area offers walks, fishing, surf-casting, sand-boarding, windsurfing, boating, horse-riding, wining and dining or just chilling out. An area rich in Maori history. The historic settlements of Rawene and Kohukohu are in easy reach and the Waipoua forest a twenty minute drive or take a day trip to Kerikeri or the the Bay of Islands
Approximately 1 hour from Kerikeri and 3-4 hours from Auckland. Drive up State Highway 1 to the foot of the Brynderwyn Hills (about 100kms north of Auckland) and turn left onto State Highway 12 to Dargaville then up through the Waipoua Forest. Dargaville to Omapere is about 65-75 minutes. Be prepared for your first glimpse of the Hokianga Harbour.
