Description
This is a large family-built strawbale eco-house tucked into the foothills of the northern Tararuas. There is a river on the property with at least 3 good swimming holes, a croquet lawn set among fruit trees in the orchard and lots of flat outdoor deck/lawn areas, with a hammock for lounging in the sun. The property is located in a beautiful, quiet rural valley, with views to the Tararua peaks and lots of native birds and trees.
In addition to lots of space outside, there is an enormous indoor living area and spacious kitchen (2 stoves) which makes the property ideal for large groups - even in the winter. We have a lovely fire to sit around, indoor table tennis, separate study with broadband internet and a vast collection of interesting books to read.
The house generates its own electricity and uses a wood stove and solar panels for water heating. Fully insulated and double glazed to ensure optimal temperature year round. All wastewater is managed by a state-of-the-art biological treatment system onsite. We have a large walk-in coolstore (including a large chilly bin) and a small fridge.
