Description
Charming and comfortable, Pohutukawa Cottage is accessible through our property next door, via a tunnel of karaka and pohutukawa trees.
The open-plan lounge/kitchen is spacious with great views of the coastline and Kapiti Island. French doors lead to the deck with more wonderful views. The bathroom has two entrances: from the bedroom and from the separate laundry.
Historic Paekakariki is a creative community with artists, writers, and craftspeople. It features two museums: Steam Incorporated and the Rail and Heritage Museum. An historic tram operates in neighbouring Queen Elizabeth Park, where 15,000 U.S. marines were camped during World War II. The park is a popular walking, cycling and horse riding area.
The village has cafes, take-aways, a restaurant/bar, art workshop/galleries, a second-hand bookshop, grocery store, green-grocers, and car mechanic.
It's easy to get here by train - five minutes from the cottage - and to get to any event at Westpac Stadium, with its pedestrian access from Wellington Railway Station.
Or just stroll along the beach, visit Kapiti Island Bird Sanctuary, cycle, or hike in the nearby Tararua ranges. Outdoor opportunities abound on the Kapiti Coast.

Reviews
“A lovely comfortable and peaceful cottage from which you can see and hear the sea. We were particularly lucky as our stay coincided with the blossoming of the Pohutukawa trees around the house.”
“What a charming cottage. Well appointed with beautiful art (and delicious cookies) the view stretches on forever and was mesmerising and soothing. The hosts are lovely and their love of the land and their property is apparent at all turns. We just wanted to settle in their forever! We cooked beautiful food, sketched, sewed, walked, hiked and got to know the locals in a very inspirational weekend. We’ll absolutely be back. Thanks so much for the lovely stay! “

“The nice cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The view over the sea is terrific and the beache just wonderfull, particularly at Queen-Elisabeth-Park. You can reache every place at Kapiti Coast by public transport. Maureen and Berry are very nice and thoughtful people. I can highly recommend a holiday there.”
