Jonathan Smart Gallery has been showcasing contemporary New Zealand art since 1987. The Gallery has exhibitions of top drawer, contemporary visual art, ranging from painting and photography to sculpture and moving image work.
There is a new exhibition every month - unique works from established artists to young emerging art practitioners.
Jonathan Smart is an art history major, free-lance writer, critic, teacher, devotee of Aotearoa’s southern island and a Churchill Fellow. He promotes the work of contemporary New Zealand artists in his gallery, making it a notable part of Christchurch's cultural landscape.
After losing our High Street gallery in the September Earthquake, Jonathan Smart is delighted to have the use of a space at 115 England Street, Christchurch East. We believe the new premises will offer terrific space both to look at art and to look to the future.
