Lake Heron Cottage is situated on a large high country sheep station two hours drive from Christchurch. The cottage, nearby farm buildings and homestead sit in a large inter-montane basin beside Lake Heron. The basin is surrounded by tussock covered hills and spectacular mountains. Lake Heron is a wildlife refuge and is home to a wide variety of birdlife, including the rare Southern Crested Grebe. Dating back to 1900, the cottage has been well maintained to provide comfortable, self-contained accommodation for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The cottage comfortably sleeps eight people in four separate bedrooms. The kitchen/living room has an open fire and there is even a bath under the stars! Guests have easy access to spectacular walks and day tramps, trout fishing, mountain biking, bird watching and relaxing. Guests may use some of the station's four-wheel drive tracks to explore the remoter parts of the property. A small rowboat is available for use on Lake Heron. Lake Heron Station also has 2 well-appointed station huts available for day or overnight stays.
