“Wonderful farmstay in a charming and confortable house. Lovely hosts Chris, Caro and William and the dog Muffin, who all took very good care of us. It was a big experience to go up to the mountains with the sheep dogs and gather the sheep! A place that can be recommended for everybody. We will be back. Thank you! The two Finnish ladies”
“We warmly recommend a stay at Netherwood. As keen walkers the farm walks (with great map drawn by Caro) offered us more than enough challenge and beautiful scenery. It was just a bit too cold for us to go swimming in the river but must be beautiful to take a dip in the pools in high summer. A restful, relaxing and charming spot with lovely hosts Chris Caro and William, and Muffin the dog. Many Thanks for sharing your part of Waihopai with us.”

“Our family spent 17 days visiting New Zealand in November and December of 2010. We stayed at a variety locations, including hotels and farm stays. By far, our three nights at Netherwood were our very best.
This is a real, operational farm with thousands of sheep set in a beautiful valley far from the hustle and bustle of the city. If you’re looking for fancy luxury this is not it. However, the accomodations are very comfortable and charming. We cooked our own meals with fresh local ingredients and ate meals amidst the garden flowers and enjoyed wine made at local Marlborough wineries.
The little two bedroom house is exactly what we wanted. Our daughter loved feeding the chickens, picking fresh eggs for breakfast, bottle feeding the lambs, and spending time with Basher the family’s goat and Muffin the small friendly dog.
Aside from miles of hiking trails, there is a beautiful river running through the property with calm swimming holes and fast moving area for rapids fun.
This farm is quite far away (40 min drive) from the nearest market, so bring your supplies in when you arrive. If you’re not sure what to bring, then call the hosts. They are more than helpful.
We recommend this for an excellent farmstay getaway. We will definitely stay here on our next trip and plan to stay longer.
Best regards, Edwad, Napita, and Mai
