Description
Kahurangi Outpost is a private accommodation lodge in a remote corner of Kahurangi National Park. The building was once Mangarakau Primary School but has undergone major alterations. The native birdlife is abundant in the bushclad hills surrounding The Outpost. Listen for the dawn chorus and during the Summer months the deep booming of the native bitten from the Mangarakau Wetland Reserve in front of The Outpost. Topping the hills behind are impressive limestone bluffs.
This venue is especially suitable for extended family groups, groups of friends, educational groups, clubs, family re-unions, craft groups, tramping clubs, photographic clubs, sports and hobby groups,4WD clubs and business conferences. From The Outpost numerous walks can be accessed through farms, native bush, coastal environments, and over and around bluff headlands.
Possible activities include biking, caving, swimming, playing tennis, birdwatching, tramping, whitebaiting (in season), reading, climbing the track to the Lookout Tree, 4WDriving or quad biking along the beach to the Kahurangi Lighthouse, photography, snacking at the Nugget Cafe and relaxing on the verandah.
