Description
Although St Bathans Police Camp was first established in the 1860s, the current Constable’s Cottage and jail were completed in 1884. Now restored, these offer separate, self-contained accommodation in a beautiful garden setting overlooking the Blue Lake. Cottage: full kitchen; three bedrooms (two queen beds and 2 singles); Freeview TV; gas bbq; elegant, sunny verandah and lake view Jail: queen bed; ensuite bathroom; kitchen with microwave & single hob; gas bbq; Freeview TV; located on a terrace above the cottage. Can supply camp bed / squab as 2nd bed if requested.
St Bathans dates from the early 1860s when gold was discovered; evidence of this can be seen in the spectacular Blue Lake, formed by mining processes, and the town’s historic buildings and ruins. Visitors can explore the town’s heritage by walking the DoC track around the lake and visiting the town’s historic ruins, or use St. Bathans as a base to explore other parts of the region’s features.
The mud-brick Vulcan Hotel, built in the 1890s, is a two-minute walk up the street and offers excellent dining, cooked breakfasts and good coffees as well as interesting local company in its cozy bar.

Reviews
“This was our second visit. Last year we stayed in the jail; this time the cottage. A new bathroom and dining area has been very well done will all the mod-cons. A very effective fireplace kept us cosy at night and the view from the verandah is superb. The bed was expecially comfortable. We love the place and are planning another visit next summer with our children. Can highly recommend it. “

“We stayed in this lovely historic place and enjoyed the country living, home from home comforts ( + the little xtras) I will always remember St Bathans with a smile- thanks for the stay in 2009”
