Te Anau is the natural gateway to the Fiordland National Park with restaurants, supermarkets, souvenir and tramping-camping stores aplenty, all within 5 minutes walk from the crib. The town is the ideal base for exploring Fiordland often referred to as the ‘Tramping Capital of the World’. All the tracks in the park are within easy distance and if it’s by road that interests you, famous Milford Sound via the Homer Tunnel only 2 hours away, Lake Manapouri 30 minutes and on by tourist launch across the lake to the underground power station and by bus over the Wilmot Pass (highest in the land) to beautiful Doubtful Sound. The rest of Southland is all an easy day’s drive away. All bookings can be made in the town.
