Description
Okarito Kiwi Cottage & The Yellow Bach are located on the corner of The Strand and Russell St. in quiet Okarito - home to about 30 residents. They are convenient to Okarito Boat Tours and kiwi tours. They are both simple and cozy baches with open fireplaces. Kiwi Cottage has a great lookout from the little front porch. Lovely with a cuppa in the morning and the sun coming up across the field.
Join us on a boat tour on the Lagoon with Okarito Boat Tours (discounted packages available - www.okaritoboattours.co.nz) to see some of the New Zealand's largest untouched wetland - a haven for many birds which make it their feeding grounds and home - including the beautiful Great White Herons and Royal Spoonbills amongst the rarer species such as Australasian Bitterns and Fernbirds.
And be sure to take a nocturnal trip into the forest with Okarito Kiwi Tours (www.okaritokiwitours.co.nz) to watch for the native Okarito Kiwi.
Kiwi Cottage is a great little place to call home while you're exploring Okarito. The Yellow Bach is next door and can be added for a larger group or hired independently for those on a budget.

“Back in Okarito for our last stay before heading North, to thank everyone for helping us for our last days of our journey round the South Island by sea kayak. A very warm welcome to a lovely fire and warrm house. Thanks again. ___NZ (Note from Paula & Swade: Melz and Max are a daughter/father team who circumnavigated the entire South Island by kayak – an absolute pleasure to have them – and congratulations on their successful completion of any incredible journey – amazing!)”
